My husband doesn’t want kids, and I’m afraid to insist

We have been married for eight years. I love my husband very much, and he reciprocates my feelings. There is love and harmony in our family, only a baby is missing for complete happiness. But my husband is against the baby, he said that he wants to live for himself without problems and worries.

When we first met, it seemed to me then that he was selfish, but in moderation, likes comfort and does not like to burden himself with obligations. But then I got used to him, I was comfortable. My parents bought me an apartment, and I proposed to my then husband, who was not my husband yet, but my boyfriend, to help me make repairs and move in together. He refused. He said that we didn’t know each other well enough (1.5 years) and he didn’t want to risk our relationship.

We fought, we did not communicate for a month. Then he called, apologized, and everything was back to normal. After six months, I was already living in my apartment. The guy started coming to my place, approved of the repairs, sometimes stayed overnight at my place, but he still refused to move in. Then he offered to move in by himself. I was surprised, but it turned out that he found a job near my house. So he decided that now he would live at my place will be convenient in every way – at all ready and close to work.

I did not tell him about it, I agreed to let him move his things. We had no quarrel with him, he was perfect in everything, except our everyday life. He flatly refused to help, however, he offered to buy groceries only for his money, but all the housework is on me. I did not mind, and I agreed. I did not want to lose him. I loved him and still do.

After living together for two years, I insisted on getting married. My parents insisted on it, saying they would not tolerate a roommate in their apartment. I was about to have an unpleasant conversation, but the guy suddenly agreed, saying that he had already thought about it himself. We did not discuss the topic of children. I had taken it for granted, but it wasn’t. At first my husband said he was not ready to be a father yet, then he said we were fine as we were, why should we spoil our quiet and comfortable life with having a baby?

I am already 28 years old, he is 31. I do not share his opinion on children. But where does that leave me? If I insist, he might just leave. It’s not a fact that I can be as fortunate to marry again. I’m used to a husband, affluence and stability. And if it weren’t for our parents, maybe I would agree to live without children. But my mother keeps saying that eventually he will want children, but my time will be out. People like me are left without a husband and without a child.
